I slept like an angel last night, seeing how I am staying in the executive suite for the time being. Just when I didn’t think it could get any better I went to the breakfast downstairs and it was very delicious. I ate a lot because I really don’t like spending a ton of money on food during the afternoon, mainly for the reason that dinner is so expensive if you want to go to a restaurant.
I got a feel of how working in a showroom really feels like. We visited Rubelli and Fortuny’s Showrooms. Rubelli makes high end fabric that is super expensive. It is used for wall coverings, pillows, bedding, and a lot of other things. A lot of the fabric is made of velvet and silk, it feels so nice and would be great to have in my own place some day. I will never be able to afford it, but a girl can dream right! I loved the atmosphere Rubelli had, it was so much fun to be with other people who were just as excited as I was when seeing this great fabric. That may have sounded a little geeky, but it was just as pretty as a piece of art. Following that we headed over to Fortuny on a water taxi. It was on a different island so it took us a little while to get there On our way we passed a gigantic cruise ship and saw a lot of different boats. The water is so green and looks beautiful. I have to say I got a little sick being on the semi-choppy water though. I was relieved once we finally got there. Trying to get on to a water taxi is very challenging. Once they have been at the stop for a minute they will leave, even if your whole group is not on. Venice is one of the most complicated cities and I would not want to get left behind, I think everyone else feels the same way, so we all try to get on at the same time and it doesn’t work the best! Its always a good time though. Once we got to Fortuny the manager started right into his introduction. We were in his showroom and there were meters of fabric on every side of us, He showed us many examples and I was amazed at how beautiful and fancy they were. About a meter of fabric there is 350 euros!! It is all printed fabric and they use all natural dyes and glue, which makes it unique and it has a really cool feel to it. Most of their buyers are from the U.S. , they said that a lot of celebrities buy from them too! It was a interesting place to visit.
For the rest of the day we had free time So we chose to shop and eat dinner, in between there we got a little lost. After looking at the map and inquiring from a few people we were back on track to our area that we are familiar with. There are a lot of shops that sell glass jewelry because of the great venezian glass. So that kept us busy, and then we had a splendid dinner at good old Mcdonalds.
Walking around in Venice is a dream come true, crossing the many bridges and being under the deep blue sky gives you such a great feeling, and I will be sad to leave here in a few days!
