rome 07.02.09

This was an extremely long day. Two layovers and 13 hours flying time all together. After all that we didn’t get to go to bed because of the time change. I may have looked like I had just woke up and that I had ran a marathon after that plane ride but that wasn’t going to stop me from enjoying my first trip to Italy! With all that time at the airports I had a really good time meeting some of the people I am going to be spending a lot of time with this next month, also.
I had a new experience riding the subway in Rome. It was complicated. It was my first time on a subway and it wasn’t half as bad after actually getting on the right one. Seeing Rome for the first time and all the buildings and people in it was amazing. It is so much different then what I am used to. Our group saw the Colosseum first and it was so much better than what I pictured it. It was surrounded by heavy traffic and it was right in the middle of downtown Rome. I pictured it being out on the outskirts with not a lot surrounding it. I felt so inspired after I saw it and was able to walk through it . It was easy to picture how it must had been back when it was first built. After learning that it was covered with marble and realizing how massive it was I had a great appreciation for the people who built it and for how long it took.
While walking around all the old architecture we got into a crazy thunderstorm. We stood in the rain for about an hour just waiting for it to calm down. We trekked through puddles up to my ankles and were soaking wet from head to toe. It was a great way to experience Rome for the first day!! I actually loved it and got
some great photos during it.
