We had a great tour of the Uffitzi Gallery and the academia gallery today. A lot of Michaelangelos work is displayed at these museums. The Uffitizi had beautiful frescos on the wall and we learned about them in great detail. I liked the Academia Gallery the best because we saw Michaelangelos statue of David. He is so much bigger than I had imagined. To see the expression on his face was a great feeling. Anyone that looked at him could tell that he was determined and brave when fighting for what was right. Afterwards we met as a group and sketched, first starting at the baptistery by the Duomo. Inside was beautiful, the ceiling showed the timeline from the beginning of man. The bold gold colors just lit up the room and made you pay attention to everything around.
One of the best moments of the day was when I climbed probably half a million stairs! That wasn’t the best part but the part right after that was. Once we got to the top I could see the whole city of Florence. The Duomo stood out the most and towered over just about everything else. Just in case you don’t know, the Duomo is a famous chapel and has a great Renaissance style to it, inside it is a little bit plain compared to some of the chapels I saw in Rome. But that doesn’t make it any less beautiful! Right now I am doing laundry at the tiniest laundomat I have ever seen! For dinner I had the best carbonara ever and their was a man singing by us while we ate outside under the canopy. It was so good and I actually liked the food so that was wonderful! Italian food 24/7=not very good!!
